Metapost: Newsletter
|
This is a metapost to inform everyone that I plan to send out my first newsletter on the first of March. I plan to do these newsletters on a "first of the month" basis because ZOMG SPAM BAD. If you're not a member of the newsletter and would like to be, you can sign up here:
Newsletter Link. I'm reasonably sure that the newsletter facilitator (Mail Chimp) doesn't sell or spam your email -- I use them because Mark of MarkReads uses them, and I've not noticed a spam uptick in the several months I've subscribed to him.
Newsletters will contain the following kinds of information:
- Notices of ending series. (I.e., "The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe is ending this month. Look for an upcoming vote.")
- Notices of beginning series. (I.e. "Prince Caspian will be starting this month.")
- Notices of compiled series. (I.e., "The posts for the LWW deconstruction can be found at X in compiled form or via link list.")
- Notices of book releases. (I.e., "Ana has finally published her book. Get it at X.")
- Anything else that seems relevant.
Newsletter subscription is optional, and all this information will still be conveyed on the blog in the usual posts. But newsletters will be a nice round-up of these things, and additionally makes me feel all grown-up and professional.

I claim this thread in the name of me!
(Quick, someone get me a flag.)
...
Now that it's mine, what should I do with it?
Well, you don't have an icon, so you can't use that for a flag. Hmm...
Now that it's mine, what should I do with it?
Plot world domination? Complain about being unable to find an airport?

The first one sounds more fun. When I was undeclared and people asked me what my major was I sometimes said it was world domination.
Do you have any good plans for world domination?
I mostly have thoughts on what not to do, for example if I should come up with a workable plan that goes, "Today [city], tomorrow the world!" I plan to pick a city that does not contain a superhero. Metropolis and Gotham can fall under my rule when the people in them realize that since I own everything outside of their borders, and since they're not self sufficient, they have no choice.

You'd be surprised.
If you set up villain shop in a community without a superhero, that doesn't protect you from superheroic interference, it just makes you some hero's first villain. What it does do is protect you from any established villains who might take over or demand a cut of the proceeds or horribly murder you.
Plus, any plan that doesn't require you to be in Gotham has the advantage of not requiring you to be in Gotham.
I'd offer to help you set up shop in Philadelphia, but that's close enough to New York that most of the Marvel lineup will be within easy commuting distance. You'll need something sufficiently remote that the major globetrotting heroes like the Avengers won't be paying attention until after you've built up a power base strong enough to withstand most heroic assaults.
Regarding the newsletter - can it include a recipe section? I for one would like to see Brin's chocolate-bacon bananas publicized beyond that one thread she described them in, and I'd be happy to submit recipes for my own weird cooking projects like the plantains with bacon and mole sauce, or the kimchi-esque concoction I'm putting together at the moment.
Ha. If you guys are willing to contribute Random Recipes, I'd be happy to put them in! :D

I was thinking I'd make a Tumblr post once I have the pictures, especially since I need somewhere to host the pics anyway. I should probably bug Mom about that at some point.
I wasn't going to sign up for the newsletter*, but if you're going to have a recipe section I might change my mind. (I would be happy to start it off.)
*It seems intended for people who don't pay all that much attention, redundant for regular commentariat members like me (am I still in the Top 5 most prolific posters?).
Heh, well, or also just for people who love getting a monthly email round-up. And definitely I encourage you all to post recipes and I'll slap them into the newsletter. :D
